Support
Two ways I can help.
I work with people affected by alcohol, drugs and gambling, and with people living with anxiety, depression or the effects of tapering psychiatric medication. Sessions are online, and we go at a pace that feels right for you.

About Janey
“I know it takes quiet courage to keep showing up for yourself with kindness, one day at a time.”
Over 20 years in the Mental Health and Alcohol & Drug sectors, here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Sober for 30 years, with lived experience of my own tapering journey. In private practice for the past 7 years.
I bring this understanding, alongside warmth and realism into the way I work. I comprehend the complexity of addiction and mental health and am able to acknowledge the differences. And treat accordingly.
How I work
Caring for the whole of you.
My work is informed by consistent training, and I draw on holistic models like Te Whare Tapa Whā (developed by Sir Mason Durie) and evidence-based resources including the Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines (Horowitz & Taylor) to support safe, person-centered care.

Physical wellbeing
Taha tinana
Your body and how it is coping: sleep, food, movement, and the physical side of dependence, withdrawal and recovery.
Te Whare Tapa Whā pictures wellbeing as a wharenui: four walls standing on the whenua. If one part is weak, the whole house is less steady.

Gentle answers
Questions people often ask.
I feel ashamed and stuck — like I’ve tried everything. Can you still help?
Yes. Shame and burnout are common parts of the recovery journey. We’ll start exactly where you are, without pressure or judgment. There is always a path forward — gently, and together.
I’m tapering and feel like I’m losing my mind. Is that normal?
Unfortunately, yes — and you’re definitely not alone. Withdrawal can bring intense, sometimes frightening symptoms. I understand BIND and protracted withdrawal, so we will focus on caring for and calming your system.
Can I just talk without having to fix anything?
Absolutely. There’s no pressure to make plans or “show progress.” Sometimes healing begins simply by being heard, allowing your voice to be met in a safe space. You are welcome just as you are.
